Sunshine Mills Inc.
has recalled three of its Nature’s Promise dog foods. The recalled dog
food contains elevated levels of vitamin D, which can pose a health risk
to pets, according to The Sentinel. The recall includes:
- 4-pound bags of Nature’s Promise Chicken & Brown Rice dog food with a best buy date of Nov. 1, 2018, through Nov. 8, 2019
- 14-pound bags of Nature’s Promise Chicken & Brown Rice dog food with a best buy date of Nov. 1, 2018, through Nov. 8, 2019
- 28-pound bags of Nature’s Promise Chicken & Brown Rice dog food with a best buy date of Nov. 1, 2018, through Nov. 8, 2019
Consumers that have purchased the recalled dog food
should immediately stop feeding it to their dog as the elevated levels
of Vitamin D can cause an adverse reaction. Symptoms may include
vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination,
excessive drooling, and weight loss. The increased vitamin D levels can
also cause renal dysfunction. If your dog is displaying any of these
symptoms, seek medical treatment from a veterinarian.
Consumers
should dispose of the affected dog food or return it to the store where
they purchased it for a full refund. Giant Food Stores, as well as
Martin’s Food Markets, have pulled the recalled dog food from store
their shelves and urge customers to return the product to their local
store for a full refund. Both companies have not received any reports of
illness due to consumption of the dog food, according to The Sentinel.
