Dog parks, off-leash areas designated for pooch playtime, are popping up all over the county.
The Trust for Public Land reports that there are currently 810 dog parks between the 100 largest cities in the United States, which is a 74% increase since 2009. This makes the dog park one of the fastest growing park amenities in the country.
But what is the best city for dog parks? Trust for Public Land (TPL) has the answer. TPL put together a list of the top American cities for dog parks, and the results may surprise you. The ranking was calculated based on the number of dog parks for every 100,000 of a given city’s residents, which means that even though New York City has more dog parks than any other large American city with 145 dog parks, it doesn’t rank in the top ten because the metropolis, with a population of 8,679,888, only has roughly 1.7 dog parks for every 100,000 residents.
