"Labradors are first on this list, however this refers to show lines, not working bred dogs ideally. This is because many believe a working bred dog is too high energy and needs more stimulation than many owners can provide when living alone," Rachel Rodgers MSc, Clinical Animal Behaviourist at Nose to Trail, tells Country Living.
"These loyal faithful companions are happy to go on long walks and adventures with their owners but are also independent enough to cope with being home alone. Just check out Darach the faithful Labrador companion who accompanies The Highland Woodsman on his epic adventures!"

"Like the Jack Russells, they also like to play so there will never be a dull evening. They were also rated as one of the top dog breeds for 'watch dog barking ability' by Coren (2006) which may appeal to some people who live alone, as it may provide an element of comfort or feeling of security."

Greyhounds make great pets for all kind of individuals, but are especially good for those who live alone
"Greyhounds are the final breed on this list because, despite being athletic and fit, greyhounds don't need as much exercise as you may expect," Rachel adds.
"These gentle giants want nothing more than to steal your heart and snuggle up under the blanket with you at night, making them a good choice breed to consider when living on your own."
