The animal shelter is currently caring for 10 dogs and 18 cats, and in recent days the organization has tracked down several owners through a Facebook campaign.

"We're still searching for the others and we're asking people to share our album to help," says SF SPCA spokesperson Krista Maloney. "We hope and expect all of the animals to be reunited with their owners – if an initial reunion isn't possible, they'll be placed into foster care while they recover to give ample time for a connection to be made with their owners."

In the first days of the Camp Fire that ignited Nov. 8, hundreds of animals were rescued by fire-fighters and trained volunteers. Many of them suffered from severe burns, their whiskers singed and their paws scorched.

The North Valley Animal Disaster Group organized an effort to help rescue lost animals and connect them with their owners. At the height of evacuations, four shelters in Butte County housed 1,900 animals; now the organization is caring for 1,600 animals, the San Jose Mercury News reports. Nearby shelters such as the SF SPCA are assisting with overflow.
