The average lifespan of a domestic dog is about 10-12 years. Of course, there is a wide variation depending on breed, genetics, life circumstances, etc. that make an exact number impossible to predict for a specific dog.
In the case of golden retrievers, they match that general average pretty well.

Occasionally, we'll see a story celebrating an elderly golden who is 17, 18, or even 19, but one has blown them all away.
August is a very good girl whose humans affectionally call Augie, and she just turned 20 years old.
Just look at that beautiful, old lady face!
As far as anyone can tell, Augie is the oldest golden retriever in the world and possibly the only one ever to have reached the age of 20.
There aren't any others on record.

Augie was born on April 24, 2000.
To put things in perspective, Bill Clinton was still president, Gladiator was the biggest movie of the year, and the Playstation 2 hadn't yet been released in North America.
She celebrated with her siblings and a dog-friendly carrot cake.
The adorable photos were shared by the GoldHeart Golden Retrievers Rescue on their Facebook page. They are the ones who finally found then-14-year-old Augie her forever home.
